System status checks monitor the AWS systems on which your instance runs. Therefore, if the status check fails, it is likely we have not much control of:
Loss of network connectivity
Loss of system power
Software issues on the physical host
Hardware issues on the physical host that impact network reachability.
We can decide to wait for AWS to resolve the issue, but usually a stop and restart (not simple reboot ) solves the problem because possibly instance is launched on a different physical server.
